Life brings challenges which offer the possibility of growing and improving our understanding of how life thrives in the vineyard and teach us the value of patience and perseverance.
Marqués de Burgos was born in the heart of Ribera del Duero, a project which has allowed us from the very first day to increase our knowledge and experience of the vineyards.
Our first born was Marqués de Burgos Roble, made with healthy, frank fruit. After a brief period in oak barrels, it grew in complexity and quality of sensations. We learnt from it to select parcels, to work the vineyard it comes from, to understand its soils and the heavens above it. To work with the woods, to tame the nerve of its excellent fruit.
We painstakingly cared for the vineyard, studied the benefits of manual tillage and discovered the virtues of its old vines. The result was Marqués de Burgos Crianza, with excellent structure and complexity.
Some of these French oak barrels grew full of life, evolving slowly. We learnt to be patient, we let them thrive at their own pace and they emerged full of life with the fruit of the oldest plots. With time, we learnt that 8000 vines provided the perfect fruit to reveal the character of three tiny plots in the vicinity of Quintana del Pidio: Santa Centolla, Carracabañes and Santa Ana barely totalling 1.7 hectares.
Thus was born 8000 by Marqués de Burgos, a selection of old vines reflecting the land they come from; a vital journey which started long ago and whose fruit is a singular wine with great elegance and maturity.
