In May, our winemaker María Barúa travelled the East coast of the USA, accompanied by our export manager for the American market, Trinidad Villegas. During their stay, they were able to share different experiences with various distributors, clients, wine journalists and wine lovers. The enthusiastic comments that they received about our wines have given them new impetus to continue.
New York, our first destination
After various tastings with the press, meetings, events and visits to specialist retailers in New York, Felipe welcomed us into his home, the Spanish restaurant, Tomiño, in the heart of Manhattan. Here, María could get first hand feedback on wines like LAN Xtrème organic, which was a novelty received with enthusiasm by those who attended the pairing lunch. The day finished with a great evening organised by the famed Chelsea Wine Society, where attendees could taste 6 of our wines (LAN Crianza, LAN Reserva, LAN D-12, Viña Lanciano, LAN Xtréme and LAN A Mano), each one different due to its ageing, type of oak, personality and character. Two very intense days, filled with kind words, which recharged our batteries ready for the next stop in the US: Miami.
Miami, culminating in Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour
Upon their arrival in Miami, María, Trinidad and the sales team for our local importer enjoyed a lunch in a typical restaurant in Florida, exchanging views on the work of LAN and the philosophy behind each of their wines. The next day, they carried out a pairing lunch in Xixón restaurant accompanied by journalists and wine enthusiasts. The party ended up in the restaurant’s wine cellar; glass in hand, sharing a great moment. Afterwards, María had an enjoyable and stimulating chat for the podcast Grape Minds, with the hosts being very interested in the constant innovation in the use of oak by LAN, as well as the care taken in selecting the wood, sustainability… And as the perfect finale to the visit, María and Trinidad visited Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in Miami, where, surrounded by a selection of the world’s greatest wines, they presented LAN A Mano 2015, our most artisanal gem, sourced from El Rincón plot in the Viña Lanciano estate.
Back at LAN, María and Trinidad returned with plenty of anecdotes, compliments and praise to share with their colleagues, thanks to the great welcome they received on American soil. We hope that everyone we met will return the favour by visiting us and sharing new experiences in our winery.
