This year was the tenth edition of the first big event for professionals in the Spanish wine calendar, marking a decade of giving wine a leading role in the world of gastronomy. Taking place on the the 13, 14 and 15 January, the International Wine Congress, Enofusion, has established itself as the space for wine within the renowned international symposium, Madrid Fusion.
A story that has never before been told
“There is a story behind each of our wines,” explained our winemaker. With this argument, María Barúa led a tasting of six of our unique estate wines entitled, “LAN, the untold story.” Attendees could appreciate the very special nature of three of them: D-12 2016, our winemakers’ favourite, which comes from the selected contents of vat number 12. They then tried this year’s big new release, 7 METROS 2016, which has undergone innovative ageing in French oak before finishing with Xtrème ecológico 2016, which represents our maximum respect for the raw materials. The tasting culminated in a journey through our vineyards via our estate wines, Viña Lanciano 2012, as well as our most iconic terroir, pago El Rincón, where LAN A Mano 2016 and Culmen 2011 are born.
LAN 7 METROS, finding the measure
LAN’s new wine reflects our innovative attitude towards ageing. We were pioneers in the use of hybrid barrels, and now, we have added Spanish oak (Quercus pyrenaica) to our selection. «7 METROS arose in our quest to find how they used to make wines in Spain many centuries ago. The Romans made wine in the Iberian Peninsula and put it into barrels made with the wood that they found in Spain,” explained María Barúa in the presentation. 7 METROS is a 100% Tempranillo aged for 16 months in Spanish oak barrels. Only a few Spanish oak specimens, selected for their exceptional growth, with at least 7 metres of trunk clear of branches and knots, can be used to make wine barrels. This new wine aims to find the perfect balance between fruit and oak, bringing greater freshness, with notes of mint and resin.
Culmen 2011, selected once again for TopWineSpain
The 2011 vintage of Culmen Reserva, the wine that best represents the culmination of LAN’s work, has once again been selected for TopWineSpain, the international review of fine wines led by the famed wine journalist and critic, Carlos Delgado. This is a compilation of exceptional wines made by Spain’s most prestigious wineries, which were selected for their superior quality and international success.
